After Finding Out Engagement Ring Is
Fake Woman Considers Breaking Up With Fiancé
The
unnamed bride wrote: ‘My fiancé had surprised me with the ring and I cannot
believe that he did this. When I confronted him about it (finding out engagement
ring is fake), he just shrugged it off, saying a real diamond ring that size
would’ve cost him a small fortune and what’s the difference, anyway? ‘He said
that the ring looks real, and my girlfriends will never know. But I don’t think
he understands why I’m upset. I am upset because I feel lied to. I am ready to
call the whole thing off.’ Advisor Natalie told the woman that being lied to is
not the best way to start an engagement. ‘People may scoff at this and call you
“shallow” or “materialistic” but the symbol of what this ring stands for is
important,’ said Natalie.
Traditionally,
engagement rings are diamonds. There are alternatives but diamonds have
remained a strong contender throughout history. So when one woman’s boyfriend
proposed to her with an engagement ring that didn’t have the real jewel on it,
she was very upset. The bride-to-be asked her fiancé about it but he brushed
her off. When she went to get the bling insured, she found out it was cubic
zirconium, an imitation of a diamond. She said she was upset that he lied to
her and pretended it was the real thing. Speaking to advice columnist Natalie
Bencivenga, she said she felt deceived and was mulling over breaking the whole
thing off. It wasn’t so much about the jewel as it was about her fiance lying
to her and telling her to go with it to her friends who ‘will never know’. She
said she was truly embarrassed about it
