Under Age Girls Demands Reunion With Turkish Billionaire Accused Of Defiling Them

The girls, aged between 14 and 17, demanded to be let out of a witness protection programme and safe house they have stayed in for the past six months. It was so dramatic  outside a Malindi court after three girls demanded to be reunited with the man suspected of defiling them.

Turkish billionaire, Elsek Osman Erdinc, was arrested in January, suspected of defiling the three girls between February and October 2018.

They claimed that they were being held against their will and that detectives have not allowed them to give their side of the story on the case facing their former benefactor, now accused of defiling them.

He is also facing alternative charges of committing an indecent act with a minor contrary to the Kenyan law.

Mr Osman, a business magnate with interests in real estate, has denied the charges saying he was framed. After the charges were pressed in January, the girls were taken away and placed in a safe house.

On Friday, the case was postponed after prosecuting counsel, Alice Mathangani, said she could not prosecute the matter because she had another matter in a different court.

“They were protesting against the delays. They also appear keen to be re-united with the accused person,” said Emmanuel Kiptoo, of Nyali Children’s Department, who is in charge of the girls.

He said the victims will not be re-united with Osman until the case was heard and determined.

Osman’s team of lawyers, led by Mr Cliff Ombeta, said court orders barred the accused from speaking or approaching the girls and that their client will abide by it.  

Later in the afternoon, Chief Magistrate Julie Oseko called back the three girls and convinced them to board the vehicle back to the safe house, promising them that the case will be heard tomorrow.

The matter has taken a new twist, after the children officer filed another case at Mombasa’s Tononoka Children Court against the girls’ parents for failure to pay school fees.

The parents, through legal aid from Kituo Cha Sheria, have also written to Osman over the unpaid fees, saying he was the one who enrolled the girls at Greenwood Academy in Nyali.

Osman replied he has not been in contact with the girls and their parents because of the court orders and that he never received a notice from the school over the unpaid fees.
